GODLY DATING AND COURTSHIP.

IS THERE A RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO DATE?
Deuteronomy 7:3-4 . . . Do not intermarry with them, and don’t let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters. They will lead your young people away from me to worship other gods. There are many warnings in the Bible about marrying someone who is not a Christian. The Bible says that by doing so you set yourself up for being drawn away from God. While it is not wrong to date someone who is an unbeliever, we must also realize that steady dating with an unbeliever can lead to a serious relationship that can lead to the kind of marriage God warns us against.1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 . . . God wants you to be holy, so you should keep clear of all sexual sin. Then each of you will control your body and live in holiness and honor-not in lustful passion. As you date you should guard yourself against becoming sexually active. This is clearly against God’s commands in Scripture. Such intimacy is reserved only for marriage because it is a picture of the purity and devotion we should reserve only for God in our worship.
WHAT DOES GOD SAY MY BOUNDARIES SHOULD BE IN MY DATING RELATIONSHIP?
Hebrews 13:18 . . . Pray for us, for our conscience is clear and we want to live honorably in everything we do.As Christians we are called to live pure lives. This means setting up boundaries for our dating relationships before we get too involved. These boundaries should be based upon God’s Word, and should include such things as the amount of appropriate physical touch, what it means to treat others with respect and honor, purity of speech, and setting a spiritual tone to the relationship.Proverbs 11:22 . . . A woman who is beautiful but lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.Proverbs 31:30 . . . Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.God calls us to use good judgment in the decisions we make. This is true in deciding who we should consider dating. Anyone who would suggest things to do other than what God calls us to should be avoided.
HOW CAN I HANDLE SOMEONE WHO IS PUSHING ME TOWARDS A PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP?
1 Timothy 4:12 . . . Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you teach, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. It is better to stay pure than to give in to pressure. If this person is really a friend who is caring and concerned for what’s best for you, they will honor and respect your desire for sexual purity before marriage.
PROMISE FROM GOD:
Hebrews 13:4 . . . Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.
